Akkermansia muciniphila is a commensal* bacterium naturally present in large quantities in the intestinal microbiota of healthy people. Today this bacterium is in the news due to numerous scientific studies that tend to demonstrate its potential role in preventing obesity. *A commensal bacterium is a bacterium accustomed to living in an environment, in this case in humans, without causing harm.
The more diverse the intestinal microbiota is composed of microorganisms, the better the intestinal health.
